Justice!

‘Good morning young man.’

‘Good morning sir, how can I help you.’

‘I wish to apply for a job.’

‘Yes sir, and which job is that?’

‘Lord Chief Justice!’

‘I do not believe the position is vacant sir.’

‘It is time for a change, young man.’

‘Possibly.’

‘I am well qualified.’

‘Are you?’

‘Yes. The right breeding and social position.’

‘Your name sir?’

‘Jeffreys! George Darrell Jeffreys. I can sort out these trouble makers, put ’em in their place. Hang a few in the gibbet, soon get the message, some floggings….’

‘I believe that is no longer legal sir.’

‘Not legal? What do you mean?’

‘The laws have been changed.’

‘Alright then, I’ll transport ’em to Virginia. 30 or 40 years in the fields, that will show ’em.’

‘We cannot transport them to Virginia sir, we no longer own it.’

‘Well, the other place then, what’s it called? I know Botany Bay.’

‘No sir, that’s not ours anymore either.’

‘What’s going on in the world, I don’t understand all this, we need some firm discipline by george.’

‘Well, we could introduce Sharia Law sir. Public floggings, executions, amputation and blinding.’

‘That’s more like it, god, that’s the way to treat ’em; and a few glasses of port after to settle the stomach.’

‘Well sir, under Sharia Law you cannot drink alcohol.’

‘Cannot drink alcohol? that’s barbaric. There must be a halfway house, proper punishment and a drink.’

‘I am not  sure sir.’

‘Well, have you got any Royal Naval hulks? we could put ’em in there for 10 or 20 years before we send em off to the colonies or somewhere.’

‘We certainly do have plenty of Royal Navy ships available, we are scrapping them at an alarming rate.’

‘Then the problem is solved. Stick several thousand in each ship, they will die like flies. Told you, I know how to stop it.’

About michaeldouglasbosc

I am retired and live with my wife on a small olive finca in the middle of a forest in the mountains of Spain in Catalonya. I served 9years in the armed services, am an engineer and because of my love of navy sailing ships a naval historian of the 1700-1800's, plus the author of 10 books. When I retired I started writing adult books my first being A Soldiers Wind. Then came Stanley's story again adult books such was his life. Another book on life in the 1950's this very much an adult book. I have now returned to my love of the sea and my latest navy book 'A Plymouth Story' follows the life of Dr James Blackstock. But Clearing In The Forest is an historical fantasy set in the middle ages at the end of King Johns reign. All the books are published on Kindle and Create a Space in paperback. I have worked all my life and for relaxation I sailed a coastal yacht for many years, but deep inside me was a writer waiting to get out. So when I retired I started writing I find story telling both relaxing and - for me - a pleasure.
