Buried Deep

Last week somebody accessed my e-mail site and started sending messages of a highly offensive and pornographic nature to my contacts and friends.  A call from a friend brought it to my attention and I immediately contacted the site provider, who, I can say was not exactly helpful.  However, the people we notified were extremely helpful and gave very good advice and guidance. I have since deleted all contact information from this site, and acted on some of the advice.

Now about a month ago a virus entered the software, and I had to contact someone who knew far more about computers than I do.  He had to remove all the software, clean the system then reload it again, 5 hrs in total.   He then informed us that ” the security provider and the major software were so busy fighting one another for supremacy that the virus had ‘sneaked in undetected’ by either of them”. These two are supposed to live in a ‘symbiotic relationship’.

This brought back to me a comment I had heard that all major computer manufacturers build their products to last a mere 2 years. Once the warranty is finished so is your computer!

I extended this thinking out one stage further. If they have this ability, then surely the next logical step is to embed software that degrades your machine even faster. I have had more problems in the last couple of months than in all of the last 2 1/4years. There have been error messages in vast numbers,  crashes, disc problems, every time I start-up Windows has to recover and repair the discs.

It’s not as if I bought a cheap laptop. I actually bought a top of the range one which is still advertised as the best, so surely if I have experienced these problems many other people are in a similar position, but how do you prove it?

So come on all you experts, here is something to get your teeth into.  Prove that somewhere buried deep are the menus that these major companies have installed to kill computers. Computers that should, if the information is correct, last many years longer.

About michaeldouglasbosc

I am retired and live with my wife on a small olive finca in the middle of a forest in the mountains of Spain in Catalonya. I served 9years in the armed services, am an engineer and because of my love of navy sailing ships a naval historian of the 1700-1800's, plus the author of 10 books. When I retired I started writing adult books my first being A Soldiers Wind. Then came Stanley's story again adult books such was his life. Another book on life in the 1950's this very much an adult book. I have now returned to my love of the sea and my latest navy book 'A Plymouth Story' follows the life of Dr James Blackstock. But Clearing In The Forest is an historical fantasy set in the middle ages at the end of King Johns reign. All the books are published on Kindle and Create a Space in paperback. I have worked all my life and for relaxation I sailed a coastal yacht for many years, but deep inside me was a writer waiting to get out. So when I retired I started writing I find story telling both relaxing and - for me - a pleasure.
