It’s Time Mr Cameron

Well Mr Cameron how is your Big Society shaping up, every one happy with full employment and prices kept under control? No! 5% inflation to destroy people’s purchasing power, plus higher taxes to finally kill off their ability to strive for a better way of life with house prices at best stagnating their assets are becoming worthless, but that is not how you envisaged the future surely. Communities working together and charities taking up the slack that was your vision for the betterment of Britain with governments standing back from the front line of social adjustment and control, any successes so far?

Are you prepared to accept some suggestions, you have been trying to reform the coastguard and helicopter rescue service why not let the RNLI run them with a block grant, these people have been saving lives for many years and are experienced and competent, they also are part of communities.

Then there are elderly people stuffed into homes, weekly we here of abuse and neglect. Age UK are interested in helping this vulnerable group why can they not run residential homes providing support and comfort, also many retired people wish to keep active and working in care homes as part-time or voluntary workers means that respect would be shown towards people of a similar age, with medical facilities attached to these premises dealing with ailments of the elderly thus taking a strain from the NHS and freeing bed spaces.

Another group in society who requires continual assistance are the mentally and physically handicapped, with charities such as Mencap, Scope, National Autism they could get together under an umbrella group to run help centres and community based homes and hospitals for these most vulnerable of people. The NHS is too big and unwieldy to supply the needs of these groups who require a gentle hand not the rough treatment of a giant bureaucracy and the abuse which inevitably follows.

So how about it Mr Cameron are you really interested in the big society? or do you wish to dump the non-profit making parts on to charities and local communities so that your chums can become even richer and will the arrogant Health Secretary finally do something for society?

About michaeldouglasbosc

I am retired and live with my wife on a small olive finca in the middle of a forest in the mountains of Spain in Catalonya. I served 9years in the armed services, am an engineer and because of my love of navy sailing ships a naval historian of the 1700-1800's, plus the author of 10 books. When I retired I started writing adult books my first being A Soldiers Wind. Then came Stanley's story again adult books such was his life. Another book on life in the 1950's this very much an adult book. I have now returned to my love of the sea and my latest navy book 'A Plymouth Story' follows the life of Dr James Blackstock. But Clearing In The Forest is an historical fantasy set in the middle ages at the end of King Johns reign. All the books are published on Kindle and Create a Space in paperback. I have worked all my life and for relaxation I sailed a coastal yacht for many years, but deep inside me was a writer waiting to get out. So when I retired I started writing I find story telling both relaxing and - for me - a pleasure.
