I watch some US news channels because seeing other people’s views of the World allows me to try to understand their view of the economic and social issues that affect everyone. In the same way I watch CCTV, RT, and Euronews even Al Jazeera some times. However, I find they all like to portray themselves as the one true font of knowledge and truth. And yes I know that in many parts of the World what is available on the news channels is state controlled, you get what the government wants you to see.
What I find disturbing at this moment in time, is the agenda being followed in the US by many news channels that purport to believe in freedom, justice and the pursuit of happiness but only in the US. There is no universality of their views if you live in another country. These views being self-evident do not apply to you. They apply only to US citizens, in the same way that freedom of the press is self-evident and enshrined in the constitution it only applies in the US. Put foreign journalists in jail!
In the economic field free enterprise, capitalism and multinationals are all good things so long as they are US and they bring the Taxes home. But by the very nature of these organisations they are only interested in shareholders, providing the best value to them. So if that means finding a tax regime that allows them to keep a higher percentage of their profits well, that is free enterprise, that is capitalism, that is a multinational!
What do you actually believe in? ask Rick Santelli! He will tell you exactly what free enterprise, capitalism and multinationals are, not central control Mr Bernanke telling you what is the right thing to do. The rest of the world needs to take a good look at the US justice system. Then ask “do these freedoms apply to us?” or are we liable to be dragged out of bed in the middle of the night by the FBI, CIA, DEA, ATF, GAO or NSA? plus all the other agencies mixed up in the State Department, Justice Department, Treasury and the Pentagon, the secret groupings are almost endless. Henry Stimpson once said “that it was immoral for Governments to look at other peoples mail?” when opposing the setting up of one of these agencies. Take J. Edgar Hoover, he blackmailed the entire political class in Washington for decades with information gained illegally, lets hope you have no secrets. So I have to ask “do we have any rights when they come calling?”
If the US wishes to be the policeman of the World then there has to be an agreed framework in which it operates. Then if these agencies wish to operate in different countries then the laws that apply inside the US need to be equally applied where ever these so-called ‘policemen’ operate.
Countries around the World need to protect their citizens and demand that freedoms which are self-evident inside the US, are self-evident outside of it. Murder and torture cannot be carried out just on the basis that some people are not US citizens. There cannot be laws and rules which apply only to US citizens, but are denied to all other nationals. Civilised behaviour demands that Freedom, Justice and the pursuit of Happiness is a god given right to all human beings and not just US citizens. If you believe in God then this should not need explaining.
