Water, Water Yuk

One of the reasons to justify the privatisation of utilities is they are heavily regulated and people also have the right to change suppliers at any time to get the best deals. But if you look at the water and sewage treatment companies this does not seem to apply. There is only one sewage pipe as there is only one water main so if you are being excessively charge or receive a bad service you cannot change.  If you have a corrupt or badly run water company in your area you are stuck with it.

Who do you complain to OFWAT? we all know they are in the pockets of the water companies is it straight forward corruption or is it a more subtle and insidious process? well paid jobs that become available later in their careers, they don’t do bribes to Swiss bank accounts anymore or large villa’s in the south of France.

For two weeks now United Utilities have been trying to poison the people of Lancashire a problem that should have been resolved in days – just pump iodine through the pipes it may not taste great but you won’t die from it. This company knows where the fault lies, they know who is responsible is it Fracking? is it contamination from badly maintained Sewage pipes they won’t tell anyone.

All this time where is the regulator why isn’t the chief executive of OFWAT- Kathryn Ross – out on the streets of Lancashire screaming at United Utilities, why isn’t she forcing them into action or has she got a new job in the pipeline?

Are we going back to the days of ‘The Citadel’? where doctors go out and blow up leaking sewage pipes to prevent Typhus and Typhoid because private water companies are more interested in maintaining their profit margins, rather than maintaining the pipes throughout Lancashire. How many other Utilities are following in this path? no wonder Jeremy Corbyn is enjoying such popularity, greed and avarice are the game in town and he opposes this philosophy, in his mind the interest of the people come first.

36% always remember that Mr Cameron!!

About michaeldouglasbosc

I am retired and live with my wife on a small olive finca in the middle of a forest in the mountains of Spain in Catalonya. I served 9years in the armed services, am an engineer and because of my love of navy sailing ships a naval historian of the 1700-1800's, plus the author of 10 books. When I retired I started writing adult books my first being A Soldiers Wind. Then came Stanley's story again adult books such was his life. Another book on life in the 1950's this very much an adult book. I have now returned to my love of the sea and my latest navy book 'A Plymouth Story' follows the life of Dr James Blackstock. But Clearing In The Forest is an historical fantasy set in the middle ages at the end of King Johns reign. All the books are published on Kindle and Create a Space in paperback. I have worked all my life and for relaxation I sailed a coastal yacht for many years, but deep inside me was a writer waiting to get out. So when I retired I started writing I find story telling both relaxing and - for me - a pleasure.
